Anapanasati - Intro + Contemplation of the Body (37min)

The Inner Rhythm Being Retreat July 2025

The first tetrad of the Anapanasati Sutta—Contemplation of the Body—lays the foundation for mindfulness through awareness of the breath and body. This tetrad guides the practitioner to attune to the breath in a simple, embodied way: first noticing whether the breath is long or short, then experiencing the whole body with each breath, and finally allowing the breath to naturally calm the bodily processes. The word kāya, often translated as “body,” includes not only physical sensations but also energetic and subtle dimensions of bodily experience. Rather than manipulating the breath or striving for a particular state, the invitation is to rest in a receptive awareness, letting the breath guide the mind into intimacy with the body. As the awareness deepens, the breath becomes a vehicle for grounding, soothing, and unifying body and mind—opening the door to ease, tranquility, and presence.
